The Federal Ministry of Works has terminated several underperforming contracts on the Abuja-Lokoja Road following a detailed performance review.<\/p>\n
The decision was announced recently by Sen. David Umahi, Honourable Minister of Works, during a briefing in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Sen. Umahi, represented by Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Press and Public Relations, said that the review covered contracts on key road sections including Lokoja-Shintaku-Dekina and the reconstruction of the Okene-Ajaokuta corridor in Kogi State. Some of the contracts were mutually terminated due to poor performance and delayed timelines.<\/p>\n
Contracts affected include the provision of culverts and drains in flood-prone areas on the Federal Road Network in the North-Central Zone, Section 2, Abuja\u2013Lokoja. Messrs. Sadogi Nigeria Ltd., awarded a contract for rigid pavement on April 4, 2024, had completed only 39.04 percent of the work despite 112.88 percent of the time elapsed.<\/p>\n
The rehabilitation of Abuja\u2013Lokoja Section 4A (CH.23+400 \u2013 CH.26+400 RHS) handled by Messrs. Venus Construction Nigeria Ltd., awarded on July 13, 2024, recorded only 33.79 percent completion with 131.15 percent of the time elapsed. Sen. Umahi explained that these contracts were terminated mutually, with contractors expected to work only within the limit of advances paid before final accounts are determined.<\/p>\n
Other projects affected include Section IVB (Flooded Section, CH.23+400 \u2013 CH.26+395 LHS) managed by Messrs. Sailthrough Engineering Service Ltd., which has submitted a commitment to complete work by December 20, despite pending payments. The reconstruction of the Okene-Ajaokuta-Itobe road, awarded to Messrs. CCECC Nigeria Ltd. on November 18, 2022, recorded only 2.02 percent completion with 146.92 percent of time elapsed and was also mutually terminated.<\/p>\n
The rehabilitation of Lokoja-Shintaku-Dekina-Ayingba road by TEC Engineering Company Nigeria Ltd., awarded February 3, 2022, had just 1.04 percent completed with 188.77 percent of the time elapsed. Sen. Umahi confirmed that supervisory consultancy services for this and other projects were also terminated due to lack of funding.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Messrs. Geld\/Triacta Nigeria Ltd. (JV) has been instructed to resume work on damaged sections of the Abaji\u2013Koton Karfe dualisation project within seven days. The minister commended Messrs. JRB Construction Nigeria Ltd. for their progress on Section 1 of the Abuja-Lokoja road, directing completion by December 10.<\/p>\n
Sen. Umahi assured that all outstanding works, including those terminated, would undergo immediate emergency intervention. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support along the 358km Abuja-Lokoja corridor and apologised to road users for current disruptions, urging patience as the ministry accelerates project completion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
