The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) underwrote $2.5 billion of a $4 billion syndicated term loan for Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, acting as co-Mandated Lead Arranger alongside Access Bank.<\/p>\n

The five-year facility is structured to refinance existing obligations and strengthen the refinery\u2019s financial position as operations scale.<\/p>\n

\nThe financing is aimed at consolidating debt, optimising capital structure, and aligning funding with operational realities of a 650,000 barrels-per-day refining asset.<\/p>\n

The President of Afreximbank, Mr. George Elombi, stated: \u201cWe take immense pride in being the single largest provider of financing to the Dangote Group.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scale of underwriting by the Afreximbank signals institutional confidence in the refinery\u2019s viability as a strategic industrial asset. Elombi\u2019s assertion that \u201cwhen we invest in ourselves\u2026 we build a secure and resilient future\u201d frames the deal within a broader agenda of African capital mobilisation and industrial self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n

The refinery\u2019s capacity and integration into initiatives such as the naira-for-crude framework reinforce its systemic importance. By enabling local currency transactions in crude procurement and product sales, the model reduces foreign exchange exposure and supports domestic liquidity conditions.<\/p>\n

The President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, noted that \u201cthis financing marks an important step in strengthening the financial foundation\u201d of the refinery, indicating a transition towards expansion and operational scaling.<\/p>\n

The strong participation from African and international financial institutions suggests that the project has moved beyond proof-of-concept to a bankable, revenue-generating asset capable of attracting sustained capital.<\/p>\n
