Samsung Electronics shares surged more than 15 percent, pushing the South Korean technology giant\u2019s market capitalisation above $1 trillion as investors intensified exposure to artificial intelligence-linked semiconductor stocks. Samsung became only the second Asian company after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to surpass the valuation threshold, having first crossed it on February 26 according to FactSet data. The rally followed record first-quarter earnings in which operating profit rose more than eightfold to 57.2 trillion won, while revenue climbed to a record 133.9 trillion won. Investor sentiment was further supported by reports that Apple held exploratory discussions with Samsung and Intel regarding potential United States-based chip production diversification beyond Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
