Speaking on the panel, <em>\u2018<\/em>Local Capability, Leadership and New Delivery Models, and Execution in West Africa,\u2019 Ajimijaye outlined the Board&#8217;s policy direction under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act 2010 and recent Executive Orders and Presidential Directives issued in 2024. He disclosed that Nigeria has achieved approximately 80 percent local content in engineering and fabrication, while identifying manufacturing and research and development as the next critical growth frontier toward achieving the Board&#8217;s target of 70 percent local content retention by 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Ajimijaye stated: &#8220;Nigeria is no longer content merely to participate in the oil and gas industry; we are building the capacity to lead it. We have reached around 80 per cent local content in engineering and fabrication, and our focus now is on closing the manufacturing and research gap so that more value is retained in the country. Local content is a partnership, not a barrier. Sustainable local content leadership increasingly depends not only on executing projects but also on creating technologies, developing industrial solutions and generating intellectual capital capable of supporting long-term competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>The Board&#8217;s interventions in training, university engagement, centres of excellence and financing support indicate an attempt to build an integrated ecosystem linking skills development, innovation, enterprise financing and industrial growth.<\/p>\n<p>The broader implication is that local content policy is gradually moving from compliance-based participation towards capability-based competitiveness.
