Airtel Africa Plc became the Nigerian Exchange Limited’s most valuable listed company after the market value of its 3.758 billion outstanding shares exceeded N21.8 trillion. The rally followed strong full-year financial performance, sustained investor demand and an internal ownership restructuring by Bharti Airtel Limited, which increased its direct stake in the company to 79.04 percent, reinforcing market confidence in the telecommunications group.<\/p>\n

Airtel Africa’s emergence as the Nigerian Exchange’s largest listed company illustrates that equity valuations are increasingly being driven by earnings quality, strategic corporate actions and investor confidence rather than sector positioning alone.<\/p>\n

The company’s market capitalisation expanded by approximately N3.8 trillion within two weeks, lifting its valuation from about N18 trillion on July 2 to more than N21.8 trillion, while its share price advanced from N4,794.60 to N5,801.40, establishing a new 52-week high.<\/p>\n

The appreciation was supported by robust financial performance. For the financial year ended March 2026, Airtel Africa reported earnings per share of 18.60 cents, representing 210 percent year-on-year growth. Pretax profit increased 114.7 percent to $1.419 billion, while profit after tax rose 147.9 percent to $813 million. The company also declared a total dividend of 7.10 cents per share, reinforcing its shareholder return profile.<\/p>\n

Investor sentiment was further strengthened by an internal equity restructuring within the Airtel Group. Bharti Airtel Limited completed a cashless share transfer valued at approximately N4 trillion, increasing its direct ownership from 62.31 percent to 79.04 percent following the transfer of 595,204,251 ordinary shares from Indian Continent Investment Limited. Although the transaction did not introduce new capital, it consolidated ownership and reduced uncertainty regarding the group’s long-term strategic commitment to its African operations.<\/p>\n

The sustained rally also indicates growing institutional demand for large-cap companies capable of delivering consistent earnings growth despite macroeconomic volatility. Rising trading activity suggests the stock is attracting broader investor participation beyond its historically thin trading profile.<\/p>\n
