Access Holdings Plc emerged as the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX)’s most actively traded banking stock in the first half of 2026, recording 9.32 billion shares traded in 245,910 deals valued at N173.64 billion between January and June. Trading peaked in April, when 2.75 billion shares worth N73.35 billion changed hands. The group outperformed banking peers in both share volume and deal count, surpassing FCMB Group Plc (3.53 billion shares), First Holdco Plc (2.41 billion shares) and Zenith Bank Plc (1.68 billion shares), while remaining among the Exchange’s leading stocks by transaction value.<\/p>\n

April’s exceptional trading activity accounted for the largest monthly volume and value, signalling heightened investor engagement as banking equities attracted renewed market attention. Although activity moderated thereafter, turnover remained consistently high, indicating that demand for the stock was sustained rather than event-driven.<\/p>\n

Compared with its banking peers, Access Holdings distinguished itself not only through transaction value but also through the breadth of market participation. While blue-chip industrial companies such as Dangote Cement Plc generated higher transaction values because of their share prices, Access Holdings maintained substantially higher trading volumes, reinforcing its role as one of the Exchange’s most liquid securities.<\/p>\n

The performance also reflects broader investor preference for banking equities during the period, with the sector accounting for a significant share of overall market activity.<\/p>\n

For capital market participants, sustained liquidity enhances valuation efficiency, reduces transaction costs and improves the attractiveness of the stock for portfolio allocation.<\/p>\n
