The Chairman of First HoldCo Plc, Mr. Femi Otedola, acquired 1.77 billion shares in the financial institution through Calvados Global Services Limited in a transaction valued at N222.20 billion, according to a disclosure on the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Thursday. The acquisition increased his holdings from 9.99 billion shares to 11.77 billion shares, raising his ownership from 21.96 percent to 25.88 percent. The purchase follows an earlier acquisition of 706.13 million shares worth N77.58 billion on July 22. Otedola’s total investment in First HoldCo now stands at approximately N1.47 trillion, making him the institution’s largest shareholder.<\/p>\n

The increased investment therefore reinforces market confidence in the institution’s long-term valuation while signalling continued commitment from its largest shareholder.<\/p>\n

The transaction also suggests that strategic investors remain willing to deploy substantial capital into Nigeria’s banking sector despite evolving regulatory and competitive dynamics.<\/p>\n
