Dangote Group has announced a major partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to expand the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

The project aims to increase the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (mbpd) by 2028, bringing it closer to becoming one of the world’s largest petroleum complexes.

Honeywell will provide advanced catalysts, specialised equipment, and process technologies to help the refinery process a wider range of crude grades while improving product quality and operational efficiency. The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between Dangote and Honeywell’s UOP division, which has supplied refining systems, catalyst regeneration units, column trays, and heat exchanger technologies since 2017.

The partnership also targets growth beyond petroleum refining. Dangote Group plans to scale polypropylene production to 2.4 million metric tons annually using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology. Polypropylene is a critical industrial material widely used in packaging, manufacturing, and the automotive sector.

Dangote is also accelerating its fertiliser expansion program, increasing urea production capacity from 3 million to 9 million metric tons per year. The current facility operates two trains of 1.5 million metric tons each, and the expansion will add four more trains to meet rising demand across Africa and international markets.

Through this partnership, Dangote Group is reinforcing its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, building world-class industrial capacity, and driving sustainable economic growth via strategic investments and innovation.
