United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has opened a subscription channel for eligible investors to participate in the Dangote Refinery’s 4.1 billion-share initial public offering (IPO), widening access to one of Nigeria’s most significant capital-market transactions.

DEVELOPMENT:

UBA said on Monday that it has been authorised as one of the financial institutions through which investors can subscribe to the offer.

Tosin Adewuyi, Executive Director Designate, UBA Group, said that the bank was pleased to be included among the approved institutions providing access to the offer.

“We are pleased to be named as one of the approved financial institutions providing access to the Dangote Refinery public offer.”

Adewuyi stated that UBA wants to use the opportunity to broaden participation in the domestic capital market.

“At UBA, we remain committed to deepening financial inclusion and expanding opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate meaningfully in Nigeria’s capital market.”

DATA:

The IPO opened on Monday and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026, subject to the offer terms. The shares are priced at N525 each, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, requiring N5,250.

The 4.1 billion shares on offer make the transaction substantial in both size and potential investor reach. UBA said the offer is available to individuals, professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners, institutional investors and other eligible investors meeting the applicable requirements.

SIGNIFICANCE:

For investors, the significance extends beyond gaining exposure to Dangote Refinery. The transaction provides another test of how effectively Nigeria can mobilise domestic savings into productive industrial assets through the capital market.

Adewuyi urged prospective investors to conduct their own assessment before committing funds.

“We encourage interested investors to obtain and carefully review the offer documents, understand the terms and risks involved, and make informed investment decisions.”

NEXT MOVE:

The key indicators will be subscription volumes, investor composition and the level of retail participation as the October 13 closing date approaches.

UBA said that investors can subscribe through its approved channels and should ensure their personal and banking details, including their Bank Verification Number (BVN), are accurate and current. It also advised investors to read the prospectus and seek professional advice where necessary.

OUR LENS:

The UBA channel turns the Dangote Refinery IPO from a major corporate transaction into a broader capital-market participation test. Its success will depend not only on the refinery’s industrial story, but also on whether Nigerian households, entrepreneurs and institutions are willing and able to convert savings into equity ownership.

UBA’s warning against fraudulent schemes is equally important. Investors were advised to use only approved channels and never disclose PINs, passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) or transfer money into personal accounts.
