AFRIMMA’s Tompolo Honour Signals Nigeria’s Security Role Is Becoming Part of Its Global Cultural Narrative

The African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) has honoured Niger Delta businessman and leader, Government ‘Tompolo’ Ekpemupolo, with its ‘Guardian of the Nation’ Award, placing Nigeria’s oil security and Niger Delta development efforts within an international entertainment platform.

DEVELOPMENT:

At the AFRIMMA ceremony at Annette Strauss Square, within the AT&T Performing Arts Centre in Dallas, Texas, Tompolo was recognised for his contribution to protecting Nigeria’s critical national assets. The organisers particularly cited his work through Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in combating crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

AFRIMMA also credited Tompolo with supporting peace, community engagement, job creation and sustainable development across the Niger Delta. It said the award recognises individuals whose contributions demonstrate commitment to protecting Nigeria’s interests and supporting national development.

The ceremony also honoured entertainers. Nigerian comedian, Anita ‘Real Warri Pikin’ Asuoha won Best Stand-Up Comedian, while Nigerian-American disc jockey and record producer Michael ‘DJ Tunez’ Adeyinka won Best African DJ.

Celebrating her victory, Real Warri Pikin wrote on Instagram, “We won #afrimma Best Stand-up Comedian 2026.”

Real Warri Pikin defeated Nigerians Basketmouth, Bovi and Godfrey, alongside Kenya’s Eric Omondi and Ty Ngachira, South Africa’s Trevor Noah and Uganda’s Patrick ‘Salvado’ Idringi.

DJ Tunez prevailed over DJ Spinall, Uncle Waffles, DJ Dollar, DJ Obi, DJ Sly King, DJ Commissioner Wysei, DJ Nelasta, Major League DJs, DJ Kaywise, DJ Dope Caesar and DJ Moh.

SIGNIFICANCE:

Tompolo’s recognition extends the public narrative around Nigeria’s oil-sector security beyond domestic policy circles. AFRIMMA’s citation effectively links critical infrastructure protection with peacebuilding, employment and community development in the Niger Delta.
